Why a dad built a zoo.

CurioZoo started at home, with two boys and one small website. This is how it happened.

Two boys. Not much time.

I’m a software engineer and the father of two boys. At home, we keep them away from screens as much as we can. They play baseball, and between homework and practice there isn’t much time left for tablets.

But the screen always finds a way.

Sooner or later they end up in the big game worlds and the video apps, and most of those aren’t made for kids. We’ve all heard the horror stories. We’ve all walked past and heard a video that wasn’t right for their age.

For me, it became an itch at the back of my mind. We wanted their screen time to be quality time, and we struggled to find it.

It began with a few exercises.

Last year, one of my sons did a gifted evaluation, and I made a website with a few exercises for him to practice. It was nothing fancy. They both fell in love with it.

So I kept building.

Seeing how much they liked it, I added more: logic, critical thinking, science and chess. Then trivia, for when we’re out of the house and want something fun to pass the time, and learn a little on the way.

They wanted every kid to see it.

They were proud of what their dad had built, and they wanted to share it with other kids. Every kid they showed it to loved it too.

Then they got tired of it.

It was only a few games and topics, so in the end they got tired of it. That’s when I decided to go all in. More to do. More to learn. Easier for every kid to use, and more interactive.

That’s how CurioZoo was born.

Today it’s a really big app, with enough topics to last for months and no end to the learning. And it’s a safe place: no tricks, no in-game coins, nothing made to keep kids hooked. Just somewhere to be amazed and to learn.

Every game teaches something, and none of it feels like homework. You’ll be surprised how many topics and skills kids pick up along the way.

Let’s practice!

What comes next? 2, 4, 8, …

This app was my dream. I wish something like it had existed sooner.

My family loves it.
I hope yours will too.
